The radio program ”נײַע כוואַליעס„ (naye khvalyes; eng. new waves) is the only program broadcast in Yiddish in Poland, one of very few such broadcasts in Europe. It was created within the framework of the Hebrew section of Polish Radio Abroad – “קול פולין”. The program is broadcast every Sunday from 7PM-8PM (UTC), or 8PM-9PM in Poland and 9PM-10PM in Israel.
The program is broadcast live on the internet (Play), on short-wave radio at 9.800 MHz, and is also available in Israel on FM radio 107.2 (MHz). Additionally, Polish Radio Abroad is accessible via DVB on the satellite Hot Bird (Orbit Postion 13º E, Frequency 19.892 GHz, Polarization level (H) FEC 3/4, SR 27500, Audio PID 119), and is also broadcast in encoded platform Cyfra+. The ten latest broadcasts are also available as Podcasts.
During the program, we interview interesting people, conducting the conversation in Yiddish, and we promote Jewish culture, featuring both Yiddishists and native-speakers, for whom Yiddish is a mame-loshn. We report on activities in research centers relevant to Jewish Studies, on those currently engaged in Jewish-related research and additional Yiddish studies from around the world. We speak live in the studio, discussing current events in Warsaw, Poland and the world, and every broadcast is accompanied with Jewish music!
